Embrace the Seasons of Self: Introducing The Reinvention Cycle
Last weekend, I was driving my cute car, and was delighted by the wind blowing through the leaves, only to realize they were brand new. Spring had sprung, and the seasons had transitioned right before my eyes.
Cycles of transformation happen continuously around us in nature, yet as humans, change can be hard. We crave control and predictability. Midlife has been filled with continuous transitions and reinventions for me. At times, it's been confusing and maddening, and at other times, expansive and joyful.
However, when I review each reinvention, there is a repeatable pattern that plays out in nature all the time. I realize that although our lives are constantly evolving, there is a consistent process we can rely on to navigate each reinvention with increased clarity and ease. I call it The Reinvention Cycle, and I'm excited to share it with you.
Dissolution: Breaking down or letting go of old patterns, beliefs, habits, or identities that no longer serve you. The dissolution of your former self or way of being paves the way for reinvention, but this phase can feel scary and unclear.
Vision: During this stage, you begin envisioning and imagining what you want. Your inner self starts sending messages about how you will evolve into your new identity. Pay attention to new interests, places where you feel joy and excitement, and the people you encounter. They are all clues to what's next.
Implementation: With a new sense of clarity you are motivated to start taking concrete steps to implement and embody your envisioned changes. You will begin developing new habits, mindsets, skills, or behaviors aligning with your vision for growth and transformation.
Emergence: In this final stage, your reinvented self emerges. The changes you've implemented become integrated and embodied, and you experience a new sense of confidence and ease as the miraculous nature of flow pulls you through life.
If you are experiencing a reinvention, can you identify which stage you are currently in?
As a self-proclaimed serial reinventor, I can attest to the power of this process in navigating life's transitions with grace and resilience. I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery and reinvention, where we can support and learn from each other as we embrace the ever-changing nature of our lives.
