Tear down the patriarchy by loving yourself
The voice of the patriarchy lives within me.
When I look at this photo the first things my inner judge notices are:
π©πΌβπ¦³My gray roots
π¦My turkey neck
π©βπ«My glasses (who is this person?)
πThe wrinkles around my eyes
In a culture that values youth and beauty above all else, we are bombarded daily with endless messages about βfightingβ aging.
These messages keep us at war with ourselves instead of focusing on the truth of our power.
In ancient times older women were the leaders.
The Wise Woman
The Medicine Woman
The Crone
They held the power and vision for the community.
The patriarchs who rose in their shadows feared their immense power, so created the myth that if women are no longer young and nubile they are worthless.
We have internalized these lies. And become panicked with thoughts like
Iβm too old
Iβm irrelevant
Iβm ugly
These limiting beliefs keep us from realizing our true potential.
I am on a mission to shift this narrative and it begins with courageous self-love.
In order to shift the outer world, we must begin from within.
Taking a moment to put my hand on my heart and breath in compassion and love I look at this photo again.
πMy laugh lines are well earned from years of joy
πMy green eyes are a window into my wisdom and experience
π©π»βπΌI celebrate a body that has birthed, nurtured, and raised 4 beautiful children
π₯°I am in awe of all that I am and all that I am becoming
Courageously loving ourselves is an act of rebellion.
Will you join me in the revolution?
Are you ready to change the narrative?
Itβs time to give yourself permission to live your truth. Stand strong in your power and generously share your wisdom and gifts.
Letβs reclaim our rightful spot as the wisdom holders and vision makers of our world.
It all starts with the simple, but not easy, practice of courageous self-love.
So next time you catch the voice of the patriarchy within, stop, put your hand on your heart, breath in compassion and love.
Call up your inner wise woman and listen to her instead.
Iβd love to hear what she has to say.
