Stop being the magic maker, and start enjoying the holidays
I have to admit I am a sucker for the holidays.
I don’t need to start playing holiday music after Halloween, but after Thanksgiving, I’m all in.
I love family time.
The Seattle Men’s Chorus.
The sparkle.
The smell of roast beef cooking on Christmas.
The anticipation of the rise of the Yorkshire pudding.
The bells on Christmas morning.
I even love to decorate. Pulling out my carolers, trimming the tree and eating appetizers for dinner.
I feel blessed because I enjoy my extended family and we remain drama-free. (Mostly)
I realize, however, that many people don’t feel like I do.
And like everything else, COVID has given us a moment to reevaluate.
Women tend to be the magic makers and this leads to a holiday hustle where we’re a depleted puddle by the 25th. I remember being in tears of exhaustion more than once on Christmas morning.
BUT we can be more intentional about what we want our holidays to look like.
We are at choice.
You have permission to design your holidays this year exactly as you want to, in alignment with your values and taking into consideration your needs FIRST.
What do YOU want?
Imagine it’s January 2 and you’re looking back on the previous 6 weeks what would make that time amazing? Write it down.
How would you like to feel? Grounded? In Wonder? Connected?
Take the actions and choose the experiences that make you feel this way.
What traditions would you like to let go of?
Stop them. Now.
Anything new you’d like to bring into your celebrations?
Create a list. Make a plan.
How can you simplify?
Ask for help? Donate some decorations you no longer like?
What will help to create more connections?
Dress down for Thanksgiving. Order the @tabletopics game and have more meaningful conversations.
How will you take care of yourself?
Meditate? Exercise? Walks in nature? Long chats with friends? Read a book under the Christmas tree?
Tell me about your vision?
